On the morning of November 13, the 3rd Optics Valley Aerospace Laser & Quantum Technology International Forum was held in Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone.
The theme of the forum was “Laser Leads Time & Quantum Guides Future”. The forum focused on the topics such as cutting-edge laser technologies and application research, as well as cutting-edge quantum technologies and application prospects to conduct in-depth discussions, demonstrate development achievements of the laser industry technologies from multidimensional perspectives, and the latest progress in quantum technology and application in all aspects, and promote the exchange, cooperation and sharing in laser and quantum technologies, business modes and management concepts at home and abroad.
The forum was directed by the Municipal People's Government of Wuhan and CASIC, hosted by China Space Sanjiang Group Corporation Limited, supported by the High Technology Research and Development Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center, the Management Committee of Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone and the Laser Processing Committee of the COS, and organized by Wuhan Optical Valley Aerospace Sanjiang Laser Industry Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd.
More than 400 leaders and experts were gathered together for this grand event, including well-known experts and scholars from the laser and quantum fields in China, the United States, Russia, Japan and other countries and regions, as well as representatives from relevant organizations of industries such as laser, quantum, aerospace, finance, intelligent equipment manufacturing and communications, and sectors involving manufacturing, education, research, finance, application and talent cultivation, including well-known enterprises, research institutes, universities, the Hubei Laser Industry Association and the Guangdong Laser Industry Association.
Leaders such as Cao Guangjing, Deputy Governor of Hubei Province, Yuan Jianxiang, Deputy Director of the High Technology Research and Development Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Chen Guoying, a member of Party Committee and the Deputy General Manager of CASIC, Tan Qianhong, General Manager of CASIC Sanjiang Group and Wu Xiaofeng, Deputy General Manager of CASIC Sanjiang Group and President of Laser Research Institute, attended the forum. Zheng Xin, the Head of Department of Science, Technology and Quality of CASIC, presided over the forum.
Focusing on the new development trend of the prospective laser and quantum technology industry
At the main forum, Chen Guoying delivered a speech on behalf of CASIC. He pointed out that laser and quantum technologies are the important development orientations of a new round of technical and industrial revolution at present, and are the hotspots of current academic research and engineering applications at home and abroad. In recent years, countries around the world have attached great importance to the development of the laser and quantum technologies, accelerated the research, development and application of laser and quantum technologies, and made continuous breakthroughs in innovative theories. The prospects of engineering applications are very broad.
General Secretary Xi Jinping has repeatedly given instructions on the development of the quantum technology in China. Hubei Province (with strong scientific and technological strength in China) and Wuhan City have issued a series of policies to promote the development of the laser and quantum industry. China Optics Valley has become a typical case for the innovation-driven development in Hubei Province.
Chen emphasized that CASIC follows the development law of a new round of technological revolution, regards the laser and quantum technologies as the focus of follow-up development, continuously increases investment in the field of the laser and quantum technologies, actively develops cutting-edge technologies, and accelerates the cultivation and expansion of new modes, new industries, new formats and new kinetic energy.
With the concern and support of all levels of governments, and the cooperation of peers from all walks of life, in recent years, CASIC has cultivated a large number of scientific research and engineering technology teams in the field of laser and quantum, made breakthroughs in a number of core technologies, and initially established an ecosystem for technology research and development, and industrial development.
Chen pointed out that CASIC hopes to provide a technical exchange platform of laser and quantum for experts and scholars in the field of laser and quantum, create an opportunity to integrate ideas and inspire innovation, and to make a contribution to the emerging industry of laser and quantum via the Laser & Quantum Technology International Forum. In addition, CASIC will continue to adhere to the new development concept of “innovation, collaboration, environmental protection, opening-up and sharing”, expand and deepen the exchange and cooperation with all sectors of society (especially, peers at home and abroad) based on the principle of “information exchange, resource sharing, capacity coordination, opening up and cooperation, as well as mutual benefit and win-win result”, increase the intensity and depth of laser and quantum industry development in Hubei and Wuhan, and jointly promote the development of the laser and quantum industry.
In the keynote speech session of the main forum, experts and scholars delivered keynote speeches on macro development trajectories and trends such as development status, cross-boundary trends, policy trends, technology frontiers and strategic cooperation of the laser and quantum technologies at home and abroad based on the development of laser and quantum technologies, and the progress of international cooperation.
Completion of “Wuhan-Hefei Trunk Line” and MAN access in Wuhan
Following the establishment of the first commercial quantum communication MAN in Wuhan in 2016, and the completion, commissioning and operation of the Phase I of the quantum communication MAN project in Wuhan in 2017, the launching ceremony of the completion of “Wuhan-Hefei Trunk Line” and MAN access in Wuhan was held at the main forum in this year.
The project was jointly built by Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone, CAS QuantumNetwork, QuantumCTek Co., Ltd. and Wuhan Aerospace Sanjiang Quantum Communication Co., Ltd. to connect the “Wuhan-Hefei Trunk Line” to the “Beijing-Shanghai Trunk Line”. Thus, the “Wuhan-Hefei Trunk Line” has become an important support for the southward and westward extension of the backbone networks for quantum in China. The construction of the project will make Wuhan become an important core hub of the national wide-area quantum communication backbone networks.
Initiatives on collaborative innovation development of laser and quantum technology industry
At the main forum, CASIC initiated the initiatives on collaborative innovation development of laser and quantum technology industry, including jointly creating an open common technology research and test platform in the field of laser and quantum, providing a common platform foundation for research and development of laser and quantum technologies and products in China, conducting basic, strategic and forward-looking research and tackling problems in key technologies in respect of major scientific issues and bottleneck technologies in the field of laser and quantum to make massive breakthroughs in core technologies, making joint efforts to carry out research in the application field of laser and quantum technologies to accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and establish an ecosystem for development of the laser and quantum industry in China by taking the research, development and industrialization of common technologies, basic materials and core components as the point of breakthrough, and establishing a joint training mechanism for top talents in the laser and quantum field to promote talent exchange and cooperation and create a top talent team with the ability to provide global advanced technologies and international competitiveness for the laser and quantum industry.
Establishing a general department of laser and quantum technologies for CASIC
At the 3rd Optics Valley Aerospace Laser & Quantum Technology International Forum, Tan Qianhong, General Manager of CASIC Sanjiang Group, initiated the initiatives on collaborative innovation development of laser and quantum technology industry. Specifically, CASIC will establish a general department of laser and quantum technologies in China Optics Valley, work together with organizations with advantages at home and abroad to tackle key problems in key core technologies and products, facilitate making major breakthroughs in key technologies in the laser and quantum field in China, and promote the collaborative innovation development of laser and quantum technology industry in China.
At present, the development of laser and quantum technologies covers key technologies for computers, mobile communications and global positioning systems, and will promote the revolution of information and manufacturing technologies.
CASIC regards the laser and quantum industry as the strategic pillar for transformation and upgrading, so as to make full use of the global competitive advantages of the electronic information industry in China Optics Valley, aim at the “core, panel, terminal and network” market worth trillions with world influence, and utilize China Optics Valley as the main battlefield for the development of the laser and quantum industry.
CASIC uses CASIC Sanjiang Group as the main platform to further integrate resources, set up the general department of laser and quantum technologies for CASIC in Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone and establish the basic guidance project for laser and quantum technology and industry.
Focusing on three major fields and 8 sub-projects, CASIC conducted the demonstration work for general technologies, key technologies, demonstration & verification projects, and professional applications, worked together with domestic organizations with advantages to tackle key problems in key core technologies and products and created innovation centers for laser and quantum technology and industry to establish a national-level laser and quantum R&D cluster with CASIC as the core, supported by domestic research institutes and high-tech enterprises in China Optics Valley.
At present, CASIC Sanjiang Group has had solid technology, industry, talent and platform foundations in the field of laser and quantum technologies. It developed China's first fiber laser industry standard (Fiber Laser, JB/T12632-2016), successively tackled key problems in core technologies, worked together with well-known research institutes and universities to establish a national-level advanced laser technology and equipment innovation alliance, utilized Wuhan Optical Valley Aerospace Sanjiang Laser Industry Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. as the industrial platform to form a development pattern of “one academy and N enterprises”, and invested RMB 2.4 billion to build a research, development and production base of core components for laser and quantum, as well as laser equipment, and an innovation & incubation base of laser industry for CASIC.
After the main forum, two professional forums on cutting-edge laser technologies and application research, as well as cutting-edge quantum technologies and application prospects were held. Representatives of enterprises at home and abroad, and scientific research experts delivered special speeches to exchange and discuss technological development, cooperation and sharing of experience and achievements, and make joint efforts to open a new chapter in the development of the laser and quantum technology industry.
