To vigorously carry forward the spirit of scientists and the "three spirits of aerospace" - traditional spirit of aerospace, spirit of “Two Bombs and One Satellite” and spirit of manned spaceflight, deeply study and publicize the lofty character of the older generation of aerospace science and technology practitioners represented by Comrade Chen Dingchang, and gather the majestic power to promote the high-quality development of the aerospace industry, the Memorial Meeting to Inherit the Spirit of Academician Chen Dingchang sponsored by CASIC Science and Technology Committee, co-organized by CASIC Party Department, and organized by Second Academy of CASIC was held on October 23 at the Second Academy. Yao Huan, the Director General of Party Development Bureau and Liu Shiquan, the General Manager and Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of CASIC and Director of Science and Technology Committee attended this meeting.
Academician Chen Dingchang is an advocate of China's strategic defense technology system, the main founder and pioneer of China's precision guidance field, the practitioner, innovator and planner of air defense system research and three generations of air defense equipment. He stood at the forefront of the times, made bold innovations, promoted the capacity building of China's air and space defense system with his whole life, and made many remarkable scientific and technological achievements that attracted worldwide attention, making outstanding contributions to China's national defense. On September 7, 2020, Academician Chen Dingchang died of illness in Beijing.
Recently, CASIC issued a notice to learn from Comrade Chen Dingchang and posthumously awarded Comrade Chen Dingchang as an outstanding Party member of CASIC.
At the memorial meeting, Liu Zhuping, President of Second Academy of CASIC, spoke on behalf of the Party Committee of the Second Academy. He pointed out that we should not only remember Academician Chen Dingchang's outstanding contributions to the aerospace industry, but also learn and inherit his lofty spirit and great character, turn the deep memory of Academician Chen Dingchang into a great driving force to go forward bravely, vigorously carry forward the spirit of scientists, dare to overcome all difficulties and obstacles, bravely climb the scientific and technological peak, and push the motherland's air and space defense cause to a new height.
Chen Guoying, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy General Manager of CASIC, attended this meeting and delivered a speech as the representative of the family members. He deeply recalls his father's glorious life of loving the country and the nation, devoting his whole life to the aerospace industry of the motherland and devoting himself to the development of national defense. He deeply recalled the good times he spent with his father. Under the subtle influence of his father, he was full of reverence for the astronauts who were "anonymous and doing earth-shattering things", and devoted himself to the aerospace industry that constantly created miracles. He deeply thanked his father for his wisdom, courage and strength, expressed his eternal nostalgia and deep love for his father, and said that he would inherit his father's last wish, devote all his efforts to the development of aerospace industry and contribute all his wisdom and strength.
In his speech, Yao Huan highly affirmed Academician Chen Dingchang's outstanding contribution to the development of China's national defense. He proposed to learn from Academician Chen Dingchang's firm belief of loyalty to the Party, serving the country and loving the people, his brave and indomitable fighting spirit, and his innovative spirit of being the first and climbing the peak forever. He pointed out that to learn from Academician Chen Dingchang is to base on overall development of the cause of the Party and the country, aim at the frontier fields of international scientific research, focus on core technologies, be brave in pioneering practice, and firmly hold the initiative of scientific and technological development in our own hands. The Party members, cadres and staff of CASIC should take the opportunity of remembering Academician Chen, remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind, closely unite around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, take Chen as an example, vigorously carry forward the spirit of "Two Bombs and One Satellite", strive to create a new situation in various undertakings and make unremitting efforts to build a world-leading aerospace and defense company with global competitiveness by giving full play to the lofty quality of “who but myself can do it”, the mental state of keeping enthusiastic, and style of diligence and selflessness, and continue to make new achievements for the next generation of spacemen in the great journey to realize China's dreams of becoming an aerospace power, a military power and realize the Chinese dream.
Liu Shiquan spoke on behalf of the Party Leadership Group and the Science and Technology Committee of CASIC. He deeply recalled the past with Academician Chen Dingchang. He pointed out that Academician Chen Dingchang's life is a life of selfless devotion to the motherland, a life of tenacious struggle and overcoming difficulties, a life of innovation and fruitful achievements, and a life of sincerity and selflessness and willingness to serve as a ladder for people. We deeply cherish the memory of Academician Chen Dingchang, not only remembering his brilliant achievements for China's space industry and missile industry, but also taking him as an example to learn his patriotic spirit of sticking to his original aspiration and caring for his country, daring spirit of strategic foresight and daring to be the first, lofty character of willingness to serve as a ladder for people and absolute sincerity and selflessness, and innovative spirit of being pragmatic and bold in making breakthroughs.
Liu Shiquan emphasized that all the cadres and workers of CASIC should fully implement the Xi Jinping Thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, firmly establish the consciousness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, uphold the leadership core, and keep in alignment, strengthen confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics, firmly safeguard Xi's status as the core of the CPC Central Committee and the whole Party and the authority and centralized, unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee, forge ahead in an innovative and enterprising spirit, and take Chen Dingchang and other older generations of astronauts as examples to vigorously carry forward the spirit of scientists and the "three spirits of aerospace" in overcoming all difficulties and obstacles, bravely climbing the peak of aerospace science and technology, and constantly promoting the national defense science and technology industry to continue new glory in the aerospace industry, strive to build a world-leading aerospace and defense company in an all-round way, support the construction of world-class troops, and make new and greater contributions to the realization of the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Academician Li Bohu, Senior Advisor of Science and Technology Committee of CASIC, Academician Mao Erke from Beijing Institute of Technology, Academician Jiang Jie from CASC, military representative, Wang Keli, former Party Secretary of the Second Academy, experts from Science and Technology Committee of the Second Academy and Beijing Institute of Electronic System Engineering, and youth representatives from the Second Academy made speeches successively. From different angles, they deeply told the touching stories of Academician Chen Dingchang, deeply expressed their thoughts for Academician Chen Dingchang, and expressed their desire to follow the example of Academician Chen Dingchang by continuously making efforts to promote the better and faster development of national defense.
More than 200 people attended this memorial meeting, including representatives from Chinese Academy of Sciences, military, CASC and relevant universities, leaders of relevant departments and subordinate secondary and tertiary organizations of CASIC, leaders and youth representatives of Science and Technology Committee, and some friends of Academician Chen Dingchang.
