On December 30, CASIC and Beihang University (Beihang) concluded a strategic cooperation agreement, marking that the two sides will further deepen cooperation around scientific and technological innovation, and personnel training to open up new prospects for the university-enterprise cooperation.
Yuan Jie, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and President of CASIC, Chen Guoying, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of CASIC, Cao Shumin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Beihang, Xu Huibin, academician and President of Beihang, Wang Yunpeng, Vice President of Beihang, and leaders from relevant departments and organizations of CASIC and Beihang attended the event.
Yuan Jie and his party first visited Beijing Air and Space Museum, Institute of Unmanned System, and Center for Micro-Nano Innovation of Beihang. Later, the two sides had discussions and exchanges, and signed a strategic cooperation agreement.
Yuan Jie expressed his heartfelt thanks to Beihang for its long-term concern and support for the development of CASIC and China's space industry, and introduced the overall situation of CASIC and the progress of cooperation with Beihang. He said that Beihang is the first institution of higher education in aeronautics and astronautics established after the founding of the People's Republic of China, and has formed a perfect discipline system and a cluster of predominant disciplines, produced fruitful results, and trained a large number of outstanding aerospace talents, providing important talents and scientific and technological support for the development of China's space industry and national defense science and technology industry.
To strengthen strategic cooperation between CASIC and Beihang, Yuan put forward the following requirements: First, the two sides should pay close attention to the major national strategic needs, serve the main battlefield of national defense science and technology, aim at enhancing the capability of independent innovation and mastering key and core technologies in the fields of aerospace and national defense, jointly apply for major national science and technology programs and implement original innovations based on new concepts, new principles, new technologies, new methods and new processes. Second, the two sides should give full play to the advantages of Beihang in basic research and the advantages of CASIC in application development and engineering transformation, jointly carry out scientific and technological research projects and collaborative innovation, tackle key and common technical problems, strengthen basic research and cutting-edge disruptive technology research, and enhance the supply capacity in scientific and technological innovation. Third, based on the national major strategy and needs, the two sides should carry out strategic research and top-level design in advantageous areas of expertise, jointly apply for the establishment of national-level scientific and technological innovation platform, set up a joint R&D institution, build disruptive, leading and platform-based integrated R&D bases, and continue to produce national defense science and technology innovations with world influence. Fourth, the two sides should deepen cooperation in sharing of academicians and appointment of high-level talents, make more efforts to introduce and recommend graduates of informatization- and intelligence-related majors, jointly carry out the training of high-level talents like on-job doctorates and masters, and strengthen cooperation in education, training and social practice. Fifth, the two sides should strengthen cooperation in the field of industrial software, work together to develop China-made software and push the development to a higher level.
Cao Shumin expressed her thanks to CASIC for its support and help for Beihang in scientific and technological innovation and personnel training over the years. She said that Beihang ranks among the top universities in China in terms of scientific and technological innovation capability, and has always attached importance to the cooperation with CASIC, and worked with CASIC on more than 170 projects in the fields of space exploration, information technology, advanced materials and IoT. In terms of personnel training, Beihang has continuously provided outstanding talents for CASIC, and some alumni have grown into commanders-in-chief and chief designers. Over the past five years, nearly 1,000 graduates have taken jobs in CASIC. At the same time, Beihang and CASIC have jointly established a practice base to achieve close cooperation in personnel training and scientific research and innovation. She hopes that the two sides would deepen cooperation, jointly explore new paths for scientific and technological innovation and personnel training, promote the construction of a world-class aerospace defense corporation and a world-class university with Chinese characteristics, contribute to building China into a space power and achieve win-win cooperation.
