On September 26, the 4th China (International) Commercial Aerospace Forum kicked off in Wuhan. The theme of the forum was “l(fā)eading the commercial aerospace and making an overall survey on the industry development”, and the forum lasted for three days. At the forum, the exhibition area for the theme exhibition of achievements in the commercial aerospace industry was established for the first time to provide an all-round multi-dimensional exhibition for development achievements and broad prospects in the field of global commercial aerospace.
The forum was co-hosted by the Municipal People's Government of Wuhan, CASIC, CASC, CETC, China Space Foundation and CSA, and directed by the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Science and Technology, China National Space Administration and People’s Government of Hubei Province.
The forum was organized by Wuhan Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, Beijing Institute of Aerospace Information and China Space Sanjiang Group Corporation Limited. Approximately 400 leaders and experts were gathered together for this grand event regarding the development of the commercial aerospace industry, including 26 international guests from 11 countries (Russia, the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Singapore, Japan and Australia), and domestic representatives from relevant national ministries and commissions, military and local governments, as well as aerospace, Internet, communications and financial enterprises, research institutes and universities.
Focusing on the new development trend of the prospective commercial aerospace
At the forum, Zhou Xianwang, Mayor of Municipal People's Government of Wuhan, delivered a welcome speech. Wu Zhijian, Chairman of China Space Foundation, Zhao Jian, Deputy Director of Systems Engineering Division of China National Space Administration, Mei Jianping, Deputy Inspector of Department of High and New Technology Development and Industrialization of Ministry of Science and Technology, Cao Guangjing, Deputy Governor of People’s Government of Hubei Province, and Gao Hongwei, the Chairman and Secretary of Party Committee of CASIC, delivered speeches respectively. The forum was presided over by Liu Shiquan, a member of Party Committee and the Deputy General Manager of CASIC.
In his speech, Gao reviewed the development trend of the commercial aerospace industry since the proposal of “developing the space industry by making use of commercial modes” at the 1st Commercial Aerospace Forum in 2015. He pointed out that encouragement and support policies were issued continuously by the Government with the great supports of national ministries and commissions, local governments, national space launch test fields and industry associations, and the joint efforts made by aerospace industry groups, research institutes, universities and various private enterprises and institutions. For the development of the commercial aerospace industry in China, the development modes were diversified, and a lot of enterprises were engaged in the industry. A large number of aerospace products and projects with potential, market prospects and vitality have been created. All sectors of society have highly praised the development of the commercial aerospace industry and placed great hopes on it.
Gao stressed that: as far as we are concerned, the commercial aerospace industry in China will achieve remarkable achievements in the next 3 - 5 years. We will witness a new pattern in the global commercial aerospace industry. The multilateral cooperation and globalization of the aerospace industry will become the new normal. The commercial aerospace industry can give new kinetic energy to the development of aerospace technology, and will vigorously promote the emergence of new technologies and new modes in the aerospace industry. As the achievements of aerospace technology are widely involved in the life of the people and all aspects of production, the commercial aerospace industry will gradually become a developed industry featuring with “visible applications and invisible technologies”.
For the future growth trend of the commercial aerospace industry, Gao made a profound analysis and judgment. He pointed out that in recent years, many commercial aerospace enterprises at home and abroad have achieved remarkable results in several key fields such as satellite positioning and navigation, spatial geographic information applications, space-based Internet and Internet of Things, and commercial space launch services. At the same time, new industries such as space manufacturing, space agriculture, space mining, space energy, space tourism, and space medicine are emerging. Driven by technological innovations and market demands, the commercial aerospace industry will grow rapidly, and is very likely to impose a significant impact on global economic development and social life through the upgrade of the space industry.
Gao pointed out that: since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, CASIC has pursued transformation and upgrading with technological innovation, business mode innovation and management innovation. Based on the development concept of “information exchange, resource sharing, capacity coordination, opening up and cooperation, as well as mutual benefit and win-win result”, CASIC integrated domestic and international resources, vigorously implemented the development plan for the commercial aerospace industry, actively promoted the implementation of the “Five Clouds and One Train” project (the key project of commercial aerospace) in an orderly manner, and has achieved phased research and application results. In addition, CASIC has made great progress in fields such as launch services for commercial launch vehicles, commercial satellites development and spatial information applications.
Gao stressed that: at this forum, a lot of leaders and elites from the commercial aerospace industries at home and abroad were gathered together to discuss the major matters regarding the development of the commercial aerospace industry, to share and exchange experience and achievements, and to provide inexhaustible impetus to accelerate the development of the commercial aerospace industry. In addition, a lot of enterprises at home and abroad will also demonstrate their development capabilities and achievements in the field of commercial aerospace at this forum to provide an important platform for peers to make an overall survey on the development of the global commercial aerospace.
Thoughts and prospect forecast about space economy and industrial development
In the report session of the main forum, Fu Zhimin, Chief Process Engineer of CASIC, Jean-Jacques Favier, Academician of Aerospace Engineering Department of ISAE, Shang Zhi, Director of Aerospace Department of CASC, Corvin Liaw, Manager of VIP Client Department of Tesat (China) of Airbus Defence and Space Company, and Chief Expert of CETC delivered keynote speeches respectively.
Fu Zhimin delivered the keynote speech (i.e., Thoughts and Prospect Forecast about Space Economy and Industrial Development) on behalf of CASIC, and made a detailed explanation on such fives aspects as connotations of space economy and industry, requirements and significances of space economy and industrial development, the trend of the global space economy and industrial development, the future development hotspots of space economy and industry, and fostering the potential of commercial aerospace to promote the development of space economy.
In his speech, Fu Zhimin pointed out that the space economy is the general term for the economic format formed by human beings engaged in all space activities and related industries, and all industrial activities induced by exploration, development and use of space by human beings can be included in the space industry. The development of the space industry is of great significance for promoting the development of the national economy, improving the quality of life of the people, and comprehensively understanding the earth. The development of space economy and industry shows the tendencies that the market income continues to rise, the industrial development environment is constantly improved, participants increase continuously, a lot of commercial innovations are emerging, and the contribution to the economy and society is becoming increasingly significant.
For the future development hotspots of space economy and industry, Fu Zhimin believed that: based on the overall survey on the global situation and the future-oriented development, the development hotspots of space industry focus on fields such as space transportation, satellite applications, space manufacturing, space agriculture, space mining, space tourism and space health. The coverage will extend from the earth to the near-earth orbit and then to the deep space.
Fu Zhimin said that at present, China's aerospace industry is undergoing transformation and upgrading, and commercial aerospace features with great development potential and space. In addition, it is an important way to accelerate the formation of a new pattern in the aerospace industry and to cultivate the space economy. The focus of our attention includes targeting at the booming commercial aerospace, following the trend of the times, seizing the opportunities for development of the times, fostering the potential of commercial aerospace and promoting the development of space economy.
Making an overall survey on new development achievements in the commercial aerospace industry at home and abroad
At the forum, the exhibition area for the theme exhibition of achievements in the industry with an area of 5,000 m2 was established at Exhibition Hall A6 in Wuhan International Expo Center for the first time for guests from all walks of life and the public. The exhibition attracted nearly 20 international enterprises and nearly 80 domestic organizations concerned, covering a wide range of fields such as commercial launch vehicles, satellite development, spatial information applications, space science popularization, investment and financing. It is the first theme exhibition of achievements in the commercial aerospace industry held in China in recent years, providing a platform for international exchange and sharing, and trading promoting integration in the field of commercial aerospace.
CASIC made its debut of the entire enterprise at the exhibition. CASIC released its “Five Clouds and One Train” project in the field of commercial aerospace, micro-satellite platforms, load products, spatial information applications, space transportation systems, UAV industry, airship industry, etc., systematically demonstrating the development blueprint, advantages and system solutions of CASIC in the commercial aerospace field. The star products exhibited at the exhibition such as Kuaizhou launch vehicles and UAVs attracted many visitors.
It is understood that in recent years, CASIC actively promoted the “Five Clouds and One Train” project in the field of commercial aerospace in an orderly manner, and has achieved phased results: as of now, for the Feiyun Project, we have completed the development of high-altitude solar drones, and we are conducting flight tests at present; for the Kuaiyun Project, we have completed the development of the prototype for the near-space aerostat; for the Xingyun Project and Hongyun Project, we have completed the establishment of the commercial company and carried out the development of the formal satellite sample respectively. The satellite for technical verification of the Hongyun Project is planned to be launched within this year, and the in-orbit test will also be carried out; for the Tengyun Project, the first flight test in China on the mode translation of composite engines has been completed; for the flying train project, we are tackling problems in key technologies; the development and launch services for Kuaizhou launch vehicles steadily advanced, and the commercial launch will be carried out recently. CASIC is working hard to make new progress for the development of China's commercial aerospace industry.
Working together to write a new chapter in commercial aerospace development
Contract signing activities for the Wuhan National Aerospace Industry Base Project was also held during the forum. A total of 22 projects were signed and the total amount was over RMB 50 billion. Among them, 16 contracts were signed at the main forum, and the total amount was over RMB 30 billion. The rest six contracts will be signed during the theme exhibition of achievements in the commercial aerospace industry. CASIC Space Engineering Development Co., Ltd. and Expace Technology Co., Ltd. signed cooperation and investment agreements with People's Government of Wuhan Xinzhou District and China Fortune Land Development Co., Ltd. on the space engineering project and the project of “CASIC Mass Innovation Space in Wuhan Optical Valley” at the main forum respectively.
After the main forum, four special industrial sub-forums concerning commercial launch services, aerospace ecosystems, satellite Internet and spatial information applications were held successively. Nearly 40 representatives from the international and domestic institutions, corporate executives and scientific research experts made keynote speeches, and were gathered together to discuss development plans, share and exchange experience and achievements, and work together to write a new chapter in commercial aerospace development.
Hou Xiufeng, spokesman of CASIC, said that CASIC, together with Municipal People's Government of Wuhan, has successfully held four commercial aerospace forums in Wuhan. At this forum, a lot of leaders and elites from the commercial aerospace industries at home and abroad were gathered together to discuss their thoughts and consensus. In addition, a lot of enterprises at home and abroad demonstrated their development achievements in the field of commercial aerospace at the theme exhibition of achievements in the commercial aerospace industry. The essence of commercial aerospace is widely applying aerospace technologies to the main battlefield of the national economy and serving the public. CASIC will seek broader and deeper international cooperation with its counterparts in a more active manner. We aim to work together to promote the flourishing of the global commercial aerospace industry, as well as the vision of peaceful use of space and the benefit of human society.
